What's disturbing is both that co-founder of Extinction Rebellion minimizes Holocaust and that its cofounders & supporters shout that climate change will kill 6 billion people

That's not just pseudoscience, it's crying fire in a crowded theater

THREAD

independent.co.uk/news/world/eur…
The co-founder of Extinction Rebellion believes the Holocaust was no big whoop

“Almost a normal event"

"Just another fuckery in human history”

“The fact of the matter is, millions of people have been killed in vicious circumstances on a regular basis throughout history”
"Mr Hallam had spoken to Die Ziet to promote the book and is said to have referenced the Holocaust “several times”

"He told the publication he believed Germany’s attitude to the Holocaust was harmful.

“The extent of this trauma can paralyse. That prevents you from learning”
So far, *only* the German branch of Extinction Rebellion appears to have denounced Roger Hallam's remarks

Already a day and a half have passed since Die Zeit published its article

XR leaders including its spokesperson @SarahLunnon01 must denounce this

While they are at it, all of the founders and spokesperson of Extinction Rebellion @sarahlunnon01 should publicly apologize for scaring millions of people including children with their 100% false, pseudoscientific claim that climate change will or even *could* kill 6 billion
The claims being made by @ExtinctionR are extremist and false and result in dangerous behaviors like the protest at the London Tube in October that resulted in two men getting beaten.

Someone could have been killed.
The main Extinction Rebellion spokesperson defended the six billion deaths from climate claim to @mmabarnett @BBCNewsnight

"Emma, when you go home, you will look at your children & think I’ve got a 50-50 chance staying in the world that we know today"

@BBCNewsnight If you truly believe that climate change could possibly kill six billion — even *six million* — people, then any amount of highly extremist and dangerous action is justified

And *that's* what's so disturbing about @ExtinctionR
Everyone who cares about people & the natural environment including climate change should denounce @ExtinctionR and not just one co-founder or this or that tactic

The entire organization is founded on a Big Lie, that climate change threatens extinction and it incites extremism
@ExtinctionR Every time @ExtinctionR says anything about climate change it is a lie

@SLunnon1 tells @Emmabarnett "There’s a distinct possibility that we lose not only our food supplies but our energy supplies. In California at the moment millions of people do not have electricity"

100% lie
@ExtinctionR @SLunnon1 @Emmabarnett What @SLunnon1 is doing is repeating totally discredited Malthusian garbage

Malthusians have predicted food shortages for 200+ years

THEY ARE ALWAYS WRONG
It In 1981, economist Amartya Sen published a book disproving idea that famines occur because not enough food is produced

Famines are caused by war, oppression, etc blocking distribution not shortages in production

Sen won the Nobel Prize for his research
Today, humans produce food for 10B people which is an astonishing 25% more than we need. Amount of surplus food will rise even under climate change

Food production will continue to depend far more on whether poor nations get tractors, irrigation, fertilizer etc than climate
@ExtinctionR spokesperson @SLunnon1 falsely claimed California power cuts were due to climate change

As I reported, all the top fire scientists agree that wood fuel build-up & development outweigh climate

“It’s almost certainly not climate change”

Here are some of the celebrities who support @ExtinctionR : @stevenacoogan @bobgeldof @bobgeldoffans @markrylance @LilyCole @emilyeavis @OfficialMelB

I hope you will denounce not just the downplaying of the Holocaust but also the extremist, disturbed lies of @ExtinctionR

END
Roger Hallam, Extinction Rebellion co-founder, says, “Some may die in the process.. There’s no real change without pain.”

“I told the students they are soon going to die”

“We’ll bring governments down”

He is mentally ill and dangerous.

Well, there you have it folks, the most celebrity-endorsed & influential climate group in Britain, maybe Europe and the world, is certifiably nuts & may be a threat to himself & others

I hope there is somebody in UK who will prevent @ExtinctionR from harming themselves & others
According to @alexmarshall81 @nytimes

Roger Hallam "is widely seen as the driving force behind" @ExtinctionR tactics

That's deeply, deeply disturbing
