I’m sorry, who are these "some people" who think that Brandt Jean hugging Amber Guyger, his brother's killer, was an example of restorative justice? Restorative justice is not about forgiveness. It may be about healing, but it’s also about accountability. thecrimereport.org/2019/11/13/can…
And in no way is this a criticism of Botham Jean's brother, because his grief & how he he deals with it is nobody's business.

Shawnda Brookshire was grieving the death of her 4-year-old daughter, Nia, the day before, when Arkansas police confronted her outside the motel where she and her family were staying, demanded ID, pinned her to the ground, handcuffed & arrested her.
West Memphis Arkansas PD claim they approached Ms. Brookshire because there had been car break-ins in the area.

"All she had to do was show us her room key and some identification to make sure she was supposed to be here."
"How they approached her was definitely defined by what they think her class was. It's something we don't talk enough about: how the police treat the poor." said Ms. Brookshire's brother, Richard Brookshire.

On Thanksgiving, people talk so much about gratitude. But freedom is not something for which anyone should have to feel grateful.

And let us not get it twisted. As Mr. Watkins said, “The things I had to go through, it was torture. There’s no other way to describe it.”
I have no idea what Alfred Chestnut, Ransom Watkins, & Andrew Stewart feel today. I felt so much so joy bearing witness to them being reunited with their families.

This pardon was issued pursuant to a wrongful conviction claim.

Surely by now we know that the mere fact someone has been convicted of a crime, and spent years in prison, does not make them guilty of it and it certainly doesn't mean they shouldn't be pardoned.
There are idiosyncrasies about this case that perhaps make a wrongful conviction claim problematic.

They center around the judge who presided over the defendant's trial and sentenced him to life in prison.
So this judge later became convinced of the defendant's innocence - this by itself would normally be a persuasive thing for any wrongful conviction claim.

The reason why people can’t understand Botham Jeans younger brother, Brandt, choosing to forgive Amber Guyger is because they have no sense of their own sinful nature.

They don’t know what it’s like to be forgiven of their own trespasses on grace alone.

People tend to view themselves as good people by default. This makes it easier to condemn others for their wrongdoings while ignoring their own.

Christianity teaches that you are sick and in need of a physician and that your only hope of getting better is in Christ alone.
Brandt understood this. He recognized that he is no less a sinner than the murderer of his older brother. They are in the same boat, so even though he had a right to condemn her, he didn’t.
