The BBC is allowing itself to be dictated to by one side in a General Election campaign as to who and when its candidate will be interviewed by. This is how journalism bleeds into advertising.
When Channel 4 didn't cave to Number 10's demands, they got threatened. buzzfeed.com/alexwickham/bo…
The BBC knew what was right - but it has caved to pressure. theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
The BBC dominates news: first place and seven in the top 20 where no one else has more than one. And we are de facto obliged to pay for its activities under threat of criminal sanction. When it bends its corporate knee to the Government our democracy is in trouble.
Why? No one is seriously suggesting the Government is responsible. We all understand this is the world we live in. There is no clamour for reassurance. Even the offered rationale makes no sense.
You also have to ask questions about how journalists are covering this serious governance failure at the BBC. If it was another organisation, one that wasn't a huge, blue riband employer, would they be getting stuck in? I imagine they would.
