I have yet to see Labour's dossier, but apparently 'expanding free childcare, cutting rail ticket prices, introducing free prescriptions and free school meals would save around £5,500 in total' per family per year.

On Labour's own existing figures, this is utterly insane.
According to 'Funding Real Change', they have budgeted:

£5.6 billion for childcare/early years
£600m for free prescriptions
£1 billion for free school meals

Rail ticket prices aren't in the manifesto but apparently that would be £1.4 billion from the roads fund
That is £8.6 billion per year. There are 19.1 million families in Britain. Dividing Figure A by Figure B gives us £450 per family per year.

Either this has been briefed out very badly indeed. Or their numbers are out by a factor of 10.
Doing this on back of an envelope so all corrections/challenges welcome. But here is Labour's funding doc (labour.org.uk/wp-content/upl…) and here is @PolhomeEditor report (politicshome.com/news/uk/politi…). The two simply don't match.
