Today someone called my office for advice about what to tell a Soldier with a "confederate" flag on his car. My advice was that, as an Army officer, he needs to infom the SM of Lee's order to surrender, and should accept the SM's surrender.
1/
The officer needs to take the SM's rifles, but can let the SM keep his sidearm. Once the SM has signed a note of parole acknowledging the United States' lawful authority and promising not to take up arms against the US government, the SM can be sent home.

I say "confederate" flag because the flag everyone flies isn't the flag of the Confederate States; it's the battle flag of the Army of Nirthern Virginia. This isn't the flag of a civilian opposition. It's the battle flag of the most important part of the armed insurrection.
3/
The excuse of supporting states' rights is a lie. If they loved their state, they'd have the North Carolina state flag or the Arkansas state flag on their car. This flag represents insurrection for the sole purpose of slavery. Their desire to own people because of skin color.
4/
It's time we stop accepting this in our ranks. We've given the failed insurrectionists a 165-year transition period, and now it's time for all US Army Soldiers to start serving the United States.
Corrections:
1. It was prolly a truck, not a car.
2. You'd think it should be "rifle", but who are we kidding?
3. Northern Virginia.
5. 155-year transition. (I haven't taken math since '93, and haven't passed a math class since '90.)
