This election - and our whole political clusterfuck at the moment - is all about cowardice. Starting off with the media’s cowardice during the referendum campaign - being scared to challenge the lies of the politicians. (Short thread)
Continuing with the Labour Party’s cowardice in being too scared to tell the truth to their ‘northern leave’ constituents that they’ve been lied to, that Brexit will be disastrous for them...
And with the ‘moderate’ Tories being too scared to challenge their Brexit leaders with a dose of economic reality until it was far too late to do anything about it.
And throughout it all politicians of almost all flavours being to cowardly to even consider the issues surrounding electoral manipulation - for fear of being called conspiracy theorists, presumably, but who knows?
And the media’s general cowardice in the face of the power of the Prime Minister - from fawning over Theresa May’s ‘triumph’ at Chequers to the current obsequiousness in selfies with Boris Johnson, through the Johnson/Peston Bromance and Laura K...
So it’s rather appropriate that it’s finishing with Boris Johnson’s total cowardice in the face of the last-minute decision of the BBC to actually scrutinise him. Far, far, far too late.
So we’re collapsing entirely because of cowardice. We kind of deserve it (and yes, I know I’ll get shouted at for saying ‘we’). Sod it. It *is* we. We’re going to all take the shit from it. In a week. /end rant
P.S. That rant comes courtesy of @GreaterAnglia screwing up my morning commute and then lying about it. So yes, I’m a touch annoyed.
