Some studies show that upwards of 80% of the victims of domestic minor sex trafficking have been a part of the foster care system at one point or another.

And because of the criminalization of sex work, these victims of sex trafficking (mostly young girls) end up deeply entangled in the criminal legal system, spending years incarcerated for something they were forced and/or coerced into as children.
There are so many good foster families out there who are generous, kind, and provide sanctuary for the young ppl who need it most, but there are also significant problems in how our child welfare systems put thousands of children in this country on a path towards incarceration.
