To get the damage done by media lies and smears, you know if you’re planning to run for Labour leader and you support
-Palestine you’ll be smeared as an anti Semite
-fair tax of the rich and proper NHS and schools spending you’ll be called a Marxist
and they’ll slap you everyday

So if you’re planning to run for leader your choice is:
Carry on with the manifesto Corbyn put forward knowing you, your family and anyone who supports you will attacked and smeared?
OR
Have a programme the media will tolerate, knowing they’ll let you off until the next Election?

Because at that next Election if you represent any kind of threat to the status quo, not even full Corbyn but just a Milliband, they’ll still smash you and even your dead parents

You do a Blair and be a better Tory than the Tories then they’ll go easy on you in that Election

This is just one reason why Jeremy was so exceptional and perhaps sadly, unique. For over 4 years, he’s not only taken these punishment beatings by the media but has thrived. He pretty much rose above it, didn’t let it break him or make him surrender. That’s legendary strength. 
Who has so far shown the strength of character and resilience that Jeremy has?
Who can be that strong to not to buckle or sell out?
So the “policy fit” of leadership contenders is second for me to character. It’s my first hurdle and yes it’s a high bar but it has to be.
