What happened to Jeremy Corbyn wasn’t a character assassination, it was a character exposure. The press didn’t destroy Corbyn, he destroyed himself years before he took the leader’s job. The Tory press couldn’t have handpicked a more ideal rival candidate if they tried.
But the Labour Left who uncritically supported him are never, ever going to concede that the problem was not the public’s perception of Corbyn, but their own. And if the Labour Left win the party civil war without learning this lesson, they are doomed to fail again and again.
Do you think Obama could have won the US presidential election twice if he had spent 30 years palling around with fucking Hezbollah? Pull yourselves together and stop gaslighting each other. Corbyn is and always was the problem, not the solution.
The US right wing press threw everything they had at Obama and none of it stuck because none of it was true. The UK press threw everything at Corbyn and it all stuck because he could never ever admit he was wrong or apologise, and neither could his supporters.
