Unfortunately whatever form of autism that drives me to ramble out such threads makes me utterly unemployable as an actual writer
I guess I've been asked 2-3 times to write for some publication but it goes something like this:

pub: would you like to write something for us?
me: I dunno I guess
pub: great, here's the topic
me: wait, you pick the topic? Sorry no can do
*please do not mistake this as fishing for writing gigs. True story, I do not want any, and you do not want me for one. It would only make both of us miserable.
How many times I have to explain this, I am a freelance public restroom attendant
Personally I find that dispensing refreshing salves, unguents, and fragrances to bathroom strangers is a far more fulfilling and dignified career than writing

#autism and literal speech - a speculative thread. Please share.

Taking things literally is an extremely famous #autistic trait, suggesting that irony, sarcasm, metaphor is entirely beyond us. But these things often aren't, so what's really going on? /1
In my various communications with #autistic folk (quite a lot, considering how anti-social I am) I've found increasing evidence that #autistic people can recognise figurative, ironic language quite well, most of the time. I think the real story is a bit more complex. /2
Straightforward irony and sarcasm can be pretty clearly signposted in speech after all - the whole 'nudge nudge wink wink' thing. I think #autistic people can get pretty adept at spotting these signs and even use them themselves. /3

The stereotype seems ancient and unarguable - #autistic people are science nerds, maths geeks, engineering boffins. They wear glasses and have strange habits. /2
But only one if these is typically true (the strange habit one, strange at least to neurotypicals). All the rest is an extreme tunnel-vision view of #autism, rather like looking at a birch tree and assuming all other trees are exactly the same. /3

Something that is fascinating for me at the moment is the question of what lies at the very core of #autism, and what #autistic traits are simply a result of conditioning from our daily traumatic experiences, should we have them. /1
I think the latter often get subsumed into 'autism' as a whole, which could muddy the waters as to what #autism actually is. How often are we mistaking 'after effects' of autism for key traits? /2
So for example, social anxiety is often seen as a key trait central to #autism, and yet its more likely to be a result of our different wired communication causing serious damage. /3

To celebrate the impending 10th anniversary of @GamesDoneQuick , I've taken the liberty of compiling a list of 100 of the best runs showcased throughout its history. I'll be adding one run to this thread every day until the 1st of January, which marks ten years to the day.
Some caveats:
* No, these aren't literally the best 100 runs. How do you even measure that? But they're all runs I think leave their impact on the event's history.
* Obviously I haven't picked any of my own runs - but there are some I commentated on, and felt privileged to do so.
* I've got at least one run in here from all 20 live events to date - CGDQ, all 9 editions of AGDQ and SGDQ, and last year's GDQx. No JRDQ or HRDQ, sorry!

Also I won't be adding anything from the upcoming GDQx, which is this weekend, but you obviously should watch that anyway!

Also how about being "over cautious" about planted stories like Clinton Cash ffs.
I mean, no shit. This is what women have been saying since last Friday afternoon.

Also, the Times has done such good work on sexual assault and #metoo. This decision is a great disservice to all that reporting.
