@AlanRMacLeod A government spokesperson confirmed the fears of many, claiming “I believe the government should reduce its own size” and a protagonistic role should be given to private enterprises. "Yes, I'm talking about privatization."
@AlanRMacLeod So far the new govt has massacred its own citizens, described #Bolivia's indigenous majority as "satanic," gave the military carte blanche to use unlimited force against resistance, and created masked, heavily armed death squads aimed at uprooting leftist + foreign "terrorists". 
@AlanRMacLeod In 1996, #Bolivia privatized gas, oil and water at the behest of the IMF (a US corp increased water prices so high almost no Bolivian could afford it #WaterWar) but when ousted leader Morales came to office, he nationalized key sectors of the economy.
@AlanRMacLeod The move generated an extra $31.5 billion in govt revenue over the next decade. Morales used the money to fund ambitious social programs and under his guidance, poverty in the country halved. It also made Morales a target of Western imperialistic powers. efe.com/efe/english/bu…
@AlanRMacLeod With the US and local elite back in charge and promising to re-privatize the economy, the indigenous' newly won social status and improved economic circumstances are at imminent risk. A reversal of this policy will take coordinated resistance on the scale of the 2000 Water War.
