@blakesmustache As this brilliant twitter account that everyone should follow has pointed out, Mitch McConnell has been backed into a corner and is in a lose-lose situation

If he agrees to a fair trial and makes Trump produce documents and witnesses, Trump is screwed. And if
someone tells you Trump was denied due process just dismiss and ignore that person. He had chance after chance to show the House why he was innocent and chose not to because he has nothing.

If he doesn’t agree to a fair trial, the House can keep the impeachment and add more
articles to it especially when both the Mueller grand jury material and Trump’s financials are seen by the American people (which they absolutely will be)

Trump and the GOP can squirm all the want but they lost. Pelosi played this beautifully and many people within their own
party owe her an apology.

McConnell can’t save Trump. McCarthy can’t save Trump. Barr can’t save Trump. Giuliani can’t save Trump. Trump’s judicial appointees can’t save Trump.

This is a very stupid situation the GOP finds itself in but under Trump’s leadership, it’s become a
very stupid party led by very stupid people so really it’s par for the course. Not one person who decided to ally themselves with Trump deserves sympathy. It’s why one Republican after the next is fleeing because to hitch one’s political career alongside a traitor takes an
astounding level of mental ineptitude.

Now again let’s ask the question of why has the Republican Party chosen such an irrational and stupid path to go down when it comes to Trump, which is something @gregolear has taught us time and time again.

Trump was a Democrat for most of his life having been a big Clinton
supporter and defender, having made most of his New York State political donations to Democrats, having chosen to support Harry Reid against Tea Party challenger Sharon Angle, having also made political contributions over the years to Democrats such as Charlie Rangel and
John Kerry, etc.

Why on earth would this party destroy itself and lose all of its majorities from 2016-2020 for Trump, who not only has been a Republican for all of five minutes, but is easily one of the stupidest human beings to speak in front of a camera and microphone?
