Tuesday, Cabinet may approve budget of Rs 8754 crore for Census & updating #NationalPopulationRegister Objective of NPR, create comprehensive identity database of every usual resident in country, would contain demographic as well as biometric particulars. Kerala & WB stalled it.
In 2010 NPR, data collected on 15 points, did not include date & place of birth of parents, last place of residence, passport number, Aadhaar, PAN, DL number, Voter ID & Mobile number. 3 points of mother’s name, father’s name, name of spouse made into 1 point this time. #NPR
Under provisions of Citizenship Act 1955 (Registration of Citizens and issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003. It is mandatory for every usual (resided in area for past 6 months or intends to reside for next 6 months or more) resident of India to register in #NPR
Status: The data for #NationalPopulationRegister was collected in 2010 alongwith the houselisting phase of Census of India 2011. The updation of this data was done during 2015 by conducting door to door survey. The digitisation of the updated information has been completed.
Now it has been decided to update the #NationalPopulationRegister along with the Houselisting phase of Census 2021 during April to September 2020 in all the States/UTs except Assam. A Gazette notification to this effect has already been published by the Central Government.
