I enjoy simulation arguments, but I can't shake the feeling that they're a crude Silicon Valley version of theism.

Crude theism is "the world was created by a being (or beings) like us, BUT BIGGER!"

Simulation is that same impulse, but the "us" is programmers.
I have no more information on this than anyone else, but I suspect whatever is going on behind the universe is just way weirder than anything we can comprehend, or understand by analogy to our own lives and motivations.
