Remember: Opposition to bail reform, like other changes, is never about public safety. Not based on reason. It’s about: Money. Power. Politics. Racism. Fear. About perpetuating a deeply damaging, costly, ineffective system designed to profit off of pain. Perpetuate mass jailing.
Note also: When Sheriff says “federal prisoners,” he’s talking about immigrants detained by ICE.

RIGHT NOW. Sitting in court. Over a dozen Black & Brown men too poor to pay bail shackled. Hauled from Rikers. Yet just 1 week into NY bail reform to make system a bit fairer, police, prosecutors, & lawmakers have the gall to cave to the @nypost & call for a return to even worse.
NOW: With my client. Young man charged w/ violent felony. Released since August. Tho reforms only ended bail for misdemeanors/nonviolent felonies, most my clients w violent felonies have long been released. He was here in court 1st thing this morning. In a suit. With his fiancé.
Client charged w/ robbery lost his hard won job within a day of arrest. He’s trying desperately to find work. And like the vast majority of people, has not (& data shows will not) rearrested while released. Not “dangerous.” Bail reform doesn’t touch ppl charged w violent felonies

Real bail horror story: Miguel was jailed on $1500 bail for a suspended license. Lost job. Suffered horror of Rikers. Couldnt get another job. Had to move out of NY w/ his family. Thanks to bail reform now in effect, this won’t ever happen to someone again.
Prosecutors claim new bail laws will lead to “mayhem.” Paul was jailed for 20 days on bail for misdemeanor assault. “I lost all my stuff. Me & my son, we struggling. I had a job. Now I don’t. He just recently had a birthday. I couldn’t buy him nothing.”
Police disseminating lists of scary sounding crimes like burglary. I represented this man after stealing redbulls & cigarettes from a deli. Charged w/ burglary. Spent 9 months on Rikers bc he couldn’t pay $7500. Arrested today, he’d be released & get needed services instead.

The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

I feel like driving up some controversy, so how about a thread of Hot Takes/Unpopular Opinions! You know the drill, one like = one take/opinion.

Start easy: the blunt awkwardness/cringe of 'Blurryface' is the point of taking the piss out of Tyler. I stand by my light 9/10.
2. I don't hate Nickelback's 'Dark Horse' - it's easily a record for them at their most tasteless, but the frat-bro swagger of it helps some of their better hooks.
3. 'Fireflies' by Owl City is a genuinely terrific song that captures precocious, starry-eyed wonderment better than few others in the 2000s.

It is SPECTACULARLY lame, but that's why it works.
