Lots of people like this on my TL who feel MSM selectively highlights Hindu names in headlines in cases of crimes.

Homework for such people: Pick up TOI, scan its city pages for a month and see the crimes in your area that have been reported on.
See how many crimes are committed by Hindus and how many stories in such cases have the names of the accused in the headline. You’ll be surprised.
What Opindia does is scan through crimes, picks those where Muslims are accused and highlight their names. THIS IS NOT WHAT MSM DOES.
Take this story for example. The man is a Hindu, but the headline neither bothers with this fact nor does it name the man. Now, if it was Opindia, they would have highlighted the name and religion if the accused here was Muslim.

So, to put it quite simply, there is absolutely no comparison between what Opindia does and MSM outlets. Because, and this is what most actual journalists would agree on, a crime is defined as communal by motive not merely the identity of the person.
Now, coming to communal crimes, it is correct that on occasions MSM won't mention religion/names when the aggressor is from minority community/Muslim. This comes from an old-fashioned sense of not aggravating the situation/fear of reactions by the majority community elsewhere.
There can be a valid critique for such a ‘protective’ editorial call. But Opindia is not making it. If you want to make this critique, be taken seriously or spark a rethink in journalistic practices, you deserve better than what Opindia is offering.
For now, all Opindia does is follow a regime of scanning through crimes & highlighting those where Muslims are accused. If someone on the other side of this stupidity had nothing better to do, they could beat Opindia at its own game...
...because of sheer population, there’d be more non-Muslims committing crimes. So, there, what Opindia does is not what MSM does. Once again, our story is not about Right/Left, it's about better standards of critique.
