I view English as kind of a tie-breaker. For as long as Nigeria remains as one country, English is a solution not a problem. Even better because the people who brought it have since left making it ‘neutral’ in some sense
English also has no gatekeepers. There is literally no economist I quote here that you can’t find a counterpoint to with 5mins of Googling. It is a fully developed Gbas Gbos language with all sides of any argument in it fully armed.
There are way too many languages in Nigeria bordering on the insane. Being taught in English in Nigeria was not to allow me to speak to an Englishman in England. It was to allow me speak to an Igbo or Igala person.
Don’t let them use your child to do titration o. They will say it is easier to instruct them in indigenous language so we should teach in Yoruba. Big big lie. Speak your Yoruba in your house and with your fellow Yorubas. But in public and in education? English please, thank you
Just as Xi Jinping is no less Chinese because he wears a western suit, I’m no less Yoruba because I tweet in English. Don’t let any ethnic nationalists sell you a dummy. Nobody can predict where language wahala can explode in Nigeria. English is ok please. Thanks ✌🏾
