JUST IN: The Unnao victim has died. She sustained 90% burns, was admitted last night to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hosp after being attacked by 5 men, incl 2 who had raped her in March & had then got bail. They abducted her as she was on way to court. Stabbed, beat and set her ablaze.
This girl truly fought. Walked over a km with 90% burns to get to the police. Gave statement. Was always near impossible to save her. Condition deteriorated sharply at 8.30pm, and then a cardiac arrest at 11.40pm. Every failure in our broken system is in her charred remains.
She said a few private words to her family before she died. Imagine now what they must live with. Their daughter simply followed the system — was walking to court for a hearing in her rape case when she was abducted by the accused OUT ON BAIL. All she did was trust the system.

Sources at @ISRO who share the above information also point out that orbiter visual of the Vikram Lander isn’t enough to establish internal structural integrity, only superficial. High velocity landing likely to have damaged systems. But effort still on to see if he’ll ‘wake up’.
Don’t think anyone should get their hopes up. The chances of reviving/re-establishing communications with the Vikram Lander are very remote according to nearly all experts, and even with the @ISRO. But that’s the thing about space — you do everything you can, and then hope. 🌓🇮🇳

Let there be no misconceptions about who protects Jaish-e-Mohammad. Pakistan is small potatoes. We already know they fund/train Jaish. True global power shielding Jaish is China. As death toll rises today, let nobody forget how China has consistently blocked action against Jaish.

Supreme Court rules on abortion law
The US Supreme Court just decided to leave in place a Kentucky law requiring doctors to perform ultrasounds and show fetal images to patients before performing abortions.
The justices did not comment in refusing to review an appeals court ruling that upheld the law, the AP writes.

The American Civil Liberties Union had challenged the law on behalf of Kentucky’s lone remaining abortion clinic. The ACLU argued that so-called “display and describe”
ultrasound laws violate physicians’ speech rights under the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

The federal appeals court in Cincinnati, Ohio, upheld the Kentucky law, but its sister court in Richmond, Virginia, struck down a similar measure in North Carolina.

One of the essential questions in the whole mess remains: who has the authority to bring the country together. Today: Supreme Court edition (short thread)
The Supreme Court did everything it could to maximise authority. It spoke with unanimity (who would have thought that?). It stated explicitly that it did not rule on Brexit.
And indeed, it spoke to a narrow issue that was unusual and not as such related to Brexit. Parliament could well be prorogued by either side in pursuit of their goals. In theory. Parliament had already passed the Benn bill. But still I share @iainmartin1 ‘s concern.
