This is an important insight. Bernie will fight for (not pass) single-payer health care, free college, loan forgiveness, and that's just the beginning of his list of promises, but he won't fight for anything that does not help white people more.
When he is asked about reparations, he highlights Rep. Clyburn's 10-20-30 idea. It was a genius idea of redirecting more budget money to impoverished communities, particularly when the GOP controlled the House. Paul Ryan loved it. There is a reason why.
Any federal program subject to this plan would be required to direct at least 10 percent of total investments to counties where at least 20 percent of the population has lived under the federal poverty line for at least 30 years. It began with the Recovery Act, but Ryan supported
expanding it even more to many more federal programs. The program focussed on counties and this is where the money went.
Hillary liked the 10-20-30 plan, too, but she wanted it to go by census tracts, not counties. Why? Because the very wealthy people who live in cities erase persistent poverty in many urban neighborhoods.
Clyburn was genius at finding a way to get Republicans to spend more money on persistent poverty, but he's from South Carolina, a more rural state. Anyway, calling this a "reparations" alternative is really gross when it overwhelmingly benefits rural voters, and yes,
there are many rural Black people who live in persistent poverty who will benefit, but it is striking he would call something a form of reparations that excludes DC, Chicago, Detroit, LA, and Cleveland. That's not even close to reparations.
Which makes me wonder when Bernie will ever support a policy that does not help white people first and most? After all, equalizing public education will do more to address racial disparities than free college.
p.s. Clyburn partnered with Booker to make it about census tracts, too.

To be fair, something a Berner would never do, Clyburn himself presents his program as superior to reparations. Sadly, it is still counties, not census tracts, so still no help to those in urban areas

Perhaps with a Democratic Senate, it could be changed to census tracts, not counties.
