The Iranian Crisis wasn't just a bad dream, even though collectively it's now as if nothing happened. Trump escalated tensions for political gain, innocent people died, and now Republicans are framing Democrats as traitors as an election strategy for 2020

That Trump was able to illegally use the presidency to take the nation unilaterally to war, that he's just lying about it blatantly, that we've moved past it, and that he can so dangerously call his opponents traitors as an election strategy is just beyond troubling.
Make no mistake about it, 2020 is going to be a reckless attempt to frame Democrats as traitors. The groundwork has been there for years now, but the steps Trump is taking now, with the photos, the statements, is where we're heading, and as a country we're unprepared.
Our culture has sped up so fast and our media is so reliant on updating news cycles that something like Trump openly calling Obama treasonous or insinuating his rivals are terrorist sympathizers simply slips through the cracks. That's nightmarish, and it's only getting worse.
Under Trump, we've now jumped from one possible war to another, from one crisis to another, and every time we suffer collective amnesia the moment it's "over." We have to remove ourselves from this endless cycle of crisis and forgetting, because this is how authoritarianism wins.
We cannot become desensitized to Trump's outrageous behavior. Yesterday, he posted hated speech, pictures of dead bodies, and actively accused Democrats of treason. We might become hardened to it, but his supporters hear it loud and clear and 2020 is going to be dangerous.
What's more, if we allow Trump to behave this way, to commit these crimes, to flaunt his lawlessness, to distort the presidency, to accuse his opponents of treasonous and traitorous behavior, if we lose our ability to be shocked and outraged, it's only going to get worse.
