HVAC 2.0 requires 3 load calculations.

Current explanation of "3 loads":
The first Manual J shows how much infiltration is needed to make your current equipment properly sized.
The second Manual J calculates the worst case heat gain and heat loss given your homes current condition.
The third Manual J will show load based on an educated estimate of making reasonable improvements will get your home based on our initial inspection and our discussion of your objectives and budget.
You might ask:

"Why not tell them their system is correctly sized for a 5400 square foot house, and theirs is 2200? Wouldn't you think that would be even more intuitive?"
So I understand the first presumption might be we want to insure people understand how oversized their equipment is.

That actually is not the primary goal. Why? Because we that concept seems easier to send home than getting people to shift on AIR LEAKAGE.
So we like to continuously reinforce the importance of AIR LEAKAGE.

Not oversized equipment.
AIR LEAKAGE.
Not square footage, AIR LEAKAGE.
Not R value, AIR LEAKAGE.

We want homeowners to understand reducing AIR LEAKAGE could be a big,
and maybe the BIGGEST opportunity if their AIR LEAKAGE is particularly high.

Also we are introducing, and really selling, importance of using this tool that measures...

You guessed it, it measures AIR LEAKAGE.
We want all this tied back to the house they live in, and making changes in AIR LEAKAGE to that house.

If you don't repeat how crucial AIR LEAKAGE is, people seem to dismiss just how important AIR LEAKAGE is.

People commonly make the mistake of thinking other things,
like insulation, are more important than AIR LEAKAGE.

You could talk about a different sized house, but that isn't talking about their house.

And it's talking square footage instead of AIR LEAKAGE.

It's talking about some OTHER house, not how much their AIR LEAKAGE
effects the load on their house, and that air leakage should concern them because AIR LEAKAGE is really important to comfort and control of their house.

This AIR LEAKAGE thing? Yeah, we think about AIR LEAKAGE a lot. Some say we obsess about AIR LEAKAGE.
But don't they say in marketing repeating the thing you want to convey the importance of often and in as many different ways as possible helps it sink in?

And what is it we want homeowners to get the importance of?...

That's all I want to say about AIR LEAKAGE,

...for now.
