In 2017, I wrote the book 'The Deep Learning Playbook' deeplearningplaybook.com that described 3 pillars of research that will drive innovation: Meta-Learning, Modularity and Game Theory.
In 2017, we had a nascent understanding of these 3 and how they relate to each other. Today, we now have a much better understanding of their relationship and this will lead to accelerated innovation. #deeplearning #ai.
The overarching model is near completion and we only need to fill in the blanks.

The notion of entropy is related to energy. But it is also surprising even the notion of energy isn't intuitive:
From the physics perspective, energy is just a characteristic of a system that is time-invariant. That is, doesn't change in time. That is, it is conserved. That is, it is a symmetry with respect to time.
Indeed it is odd that humans employ a metaphoric construct (i.e. energy) to frame their theories:

Brian is my best friend’s in-law. After his dad died in a motorcycle accident, he became depressed. He fell down the rabbit hole of YouTube conspiracy theories, with flat earth, aliens & co. Now he does not trust anyone. He stopped working, seeing friends, and wanting kids. 2/
Brian spends most of his time watching YouTube, supported by his wife.

For his parents, family and friends, his story is heartbreaking.
But from the point of view of YouTube’s AI, he’s a jackpot.

Learning about surface vs deep learners. @lsu Teaching Colloquium. Thinking about implications and applications of learned information.
Learner needs to regard info as important, intriguing, or beautiful. Then deep learning occurs. Learner needs to be in charge of the question. But, few students will not take a deep approach to learning.
