The judge quoted EU doctrine and jurisprudence - including the EU Parliament Directive approved last year - to support the conviction that he can not be considered a whistleblower because he obtained information through illicit acts - meaning, hacking
That status, the EU legislation says, can only be given to someone who has access to information through his/her legal activity. Quoting the decision: "a whistle-blower is someone of good faith who licitly became aware of the facts it denounces".
According to the court @RuiPinto_FL not only obtained the information through illicit means but also tried to profit in two phases. First when he tried to extort Doyen.
Second when, before his prison, @RuiPinto_FL draw on a piece of paper a plan for the near future: that included veto power about the stories published by the EIC, house and paid expenses for a long time, a job for his girlfriend and a PR firm, etc.
This should open a serious debate specially among journalists about our limits and who should be considered a whistleblower
The amount of crimes can cost @RuiPinto_FL a total of 20 years in jail. And keep in mind that he will face another investigation following what was found in his hard drives: evidences he hacked the world biggest clubs, lawyers offices, FIFA, etc. sabado.pt/portugal/detal…
