As his trial begins in earnest this week, Harvey Weinstein is isolated, depressed and terrified of going to prison, his friends say.
Weinstein himself says he's in daily therapy and a sex addiction program.

Friends have described Weinstein as alternating between a Manhattan rental apartment and his best friend's house in Connecticut where he reads, watches TV, Googles his media coverage and broods about the trial.
“Harvey is bewildered by how all of this played out,” one friend said. “He is numb, absolutely numb from all of this. He’s dazed.”

News from bail hearing of Genaro Garcia Luna, Mexico's former top cop accused corruption w/ the Sinaloa cartel:
Prosecutors said they are investigating "a web" of former Mexican officials connected to GGL. They didn't name any but said they were "co-conspirators" in the case.
"Many of these officials are still in Mexico," a prosecutor said. "Many of them still hold powerful positions in the private sector."
A magistrate judge is even now deciding whether or not to release GGL on a bail package of $1 million secured by properties GGL owns.

In preparation for this morning's bail hearing for Genaro Garcia Luna, prosecutors say he should not released. Since GGL was arrested in December, prosecutors say they have found additional witnesses to support the charge that he took millions in bribes from the Sinaloa cartel.
Prosecutors also suggest there's an incentive for other "corrupt Mexican officials" to help him flee in order to avoid "public disclosure of these criminal acts at trial."
The Brooklyn prosecutors also say that GGL's claim of financial hardship "strains credulity." A DEA investigation, they say, has revealed that GGL has multiple real estate holdings worth nearly $4 million.

A bail hearing has been scheduled for Thursday 11 am in the case of Genaro Garcia Luna, the former Mexican security official accused of taking bribes from the Sinaloa cartel.
Garcia Luna’s lawyer had asked earlier this week to have him released on $1 million bond.
The significance of the hearing:
Prosecutors are likely to detail some of their evidence against Garcia Luna in trying to keep him in custody.
In court papers they have already said they have downloads from GGL's electronic devices & intercepted communications (unclear whose.)
Garcia Luna's case is prosecuted in Brooklyn Federal Court in front of the same judge who tried Chapo Guzman.
Prosecutors have already said the Guzman and Garcia Luna cases are connected and are based on some of the same evidence.

Yesterday at Columbia University's 'She Opened the Door' attendees were riveted by the story of Harvey Weinstein's trial.

Jodi Kantor who writes for the NYT talked about "consent."
She talked about
one of the women having sex with Weinstein "consensually" after the initial forced act.

She spoke about how journalists have received threats from Weinstein. She said they have a team to protect them.

When an attendee stood up and asked if journalists are
"threatened" - then how does a woman who is harassed by a powerful predator protect herself? At this moment the questions abruptly ended.

However, that is a question for all of us here: how does a normal person protect themselves against an abusive and powerful individual?

Harvey Weinstein allegedly used an erectile dysfunction injection to help him rape.

FROM THE TRIAL:

“He demanded that she take off her clothes. She refused. He became louder and more aggressive. He grabbed her and began to physically undress her,” Hast said.
When the woman relented and disrobed, Weinstein “ordered her onto the bed and disappeared for a moment into the bathroom,” Hast said, then “came back out, got on top of her and raped her.”

The woman, who Hast said was “distraught, disgusted and horrified,” ran
into the bathroom and “saw a needle in the garbage can.”

“She looked at the label of the wrapper and later Googled it,” learning that it was for an erectile dysfunction drug, Hast said.
