I had an unusual (for me) experience last week: I have sat on the press bench in the court the #Falklands many times, but, for only the second time in over 10 years, I was bobbing up and down at the lawyers’ table ...
... the reports afterwards by @roddycordeiro and @TraighanaSmith were fair and balanced (I haven’t seen @kyleknappett’s but have no doubt it was too) ...

... but there’s a (not critical of the people) but ...
... the media reports were inevitably compressed and could not possibly capture all of even a relatively short hearing, let alone all of the backstory or underlying issues ...
... in a small community like the #Falklands, it’s easy to get feedback on what people think they understand about a case from what they’ve heard about it (not necessarily just from the media) - how much more difficult must it be in larger communities? ...
... I’m not sure there is any way around any of this, apart from being aware that court cases (wherever they take place and wherever you read or hear about them) are like icebergs - there’s far more below the surface than above it ...
... and maybe there’s a lesson for me that I can learn from having been on both sides of the bar of the court!
