Coverage of Tuesday’s session of the #UNGA 4th Committee:

un.org/press/en/2019/…

#Gibraltar was one #NSGT covered on Tuesday, as was #Anguilla and French Polynesia
The @GovAnguillaUK representative argued that the relationship between the UK and #Anguilla is “... not a modern relationship, nor is it one that offers respect to our citizens.”
The @GovAnguillaUK representative also made this interesting point at the #UNGA 4th Committee on Tuesday: “The United Kingdom’s bundling of Territories together for administrative reasons means that only the agendas of the most dominant members of such a forum receive attention.”
The UK #OverseasTerritories aren’t all the same and don’t all have the same interests or face the same challenges and this was *very* obvious during the @CommonsForeign inquiry not so long ago!
There are ways for OTs to make common cause (such as @UKOTAssociation) ...
... but, not only do the separate OT representations (such as @FalklandsinUK) have distinct challenges to highlight to @foreignoffice and other UK govt departments, it would be most surprising if there were not some inevitable competition too ..:
So, what’s the answer?

Ah, well, it’s easier for me to speculate about problems than to come up with solutions!

There have been, are and will continue to be efforts to modernise the relationship between the UK and its #OverseasTeritories ...
... and, even if an answer is found, the relationship continues to evolve.

But it can’t be one size fits none any more than it can be (as @GovAnguillaUK seemed to imply on Tuesday at the #UNGA 4th Committee) that the squeakier wheels get more oil ...
The #OverseasTerritories are changing.

The UK is changing ... at the moment, in ways that provide morbid fascination when watched from 8000 miles away in the #Falklands!

It would be surprising if the relationship did not change too ...
That process of change will need to be managed in way that respects and reflects everyone’s common interests and distinct interests.

I know: easier said than done!
