Chief Justice John Roberts pronounces Pat Cipollone’s name incorrectly the first time. Got it right the second time.
Cipollone, the White House Counsel, is now somewhat awkwardly/revealingly arguing as the proponent of McConnell’s trial rules.
Lead House manager Adam Schiff, theoretically arguing a procedural motion against McConnell’s trial rules, gave his overall opening statement first. Then he said there’s a more important issue than guilt or innocence — whether there will be a fair trial.
Night and day between Cipollone and Schiff so far. Perfunctory and concise vs thoughtful and discursive. I wish we weren’t all scarred by experience to be so cynical about whether any of these senators can be persuaded.
