The @MissouriGOP feels as if keeping firearms out of the hands of convicted domestic abusers is somehow taking away our freedom. Why do they feel threatened? Why are they so set on protecting domestic abusers? #GunLawsSaveLives #moleg @MomsDemand
Since 2017, MO has allowed people to carry concealed, loaded firearms in public without a background check or permit. Missouri currently has the Fifth-highest gun death rate in the country and exported crime guns at a higher rate than the national average.
Missouri does not: •Require a background check prior to the transfer of a firearm between unlicensed parties.
•Prohibit the transfer or possession of assault weapons, 50 caliber rifles or large capacity ammunition magazines...
•Require firearms dealers to obtain a state license.
•Require gun owners to obtain a license, register their firearms, or report lost or stolen firearms.
•Limit the number of firearms that may be purchased at one time...
•Impose a waiting period on firearm purchases.
•Regulate unsafe handguns (“junk guns” or “Saturday night specials”).
•Significantly regulate ammunition.
•Allow local governments to regulate firearms.
•Give local law enforcement discretion to deny a concealed carry permit.
The thousands of shootings that occur each year in MO are a serious drain on the state’s economy. Based on the expenses we can directly measure, including healthcare costs ($98 million per year), law enforcement and criminal justice expenses ($159 million per year),...
costs to employers ($12 million per year), and lost income ($1.7 billion per year), the initial price tag of gun violence in MO is over $1.9 billion per year.
Much of this tab is picked up by the public. Additionally, law enforcement efforts are funded entirely by taxpayer dollars. As a result, the direct annual cost of gun violence to Missouri taxpayers is over $384 million.
MO averages 620 firearm deaths by suicide and 421 firearm homicides per year. That does not include firearm deaths by law enforcement, unintentional firearm deaths, or undetermined firearm deaths.
Missouri has 1,074 gun deaths every year, with a rate of 17.5 deaths per 100,000 people.
In Mo, gun deaths have increased 55% from 2008 to 2017, compared to a 17% increase nationwide. But please, @MissouriGOP, tell us again about about your “well regulated militia”. @nicolergalloway, Thank you for standing up for the safety of MO! I look forward to casting my vote!
