as someone who actually represents publisher interests, I don't get this take beyond the challenge in passing it (they're making good progress) and possible distraction from antitrust investigations (can multitask). It's a lot of hyperbole/principle getting in way of progress. /1
This aside, just saw @lutherlowe tweet about Public Knowledge funding from Alphabet/Google. If true, this should be disclosed in an op-ed like this. I've spent my time with them explaining how Google's ad stack works assuming they had no bias. Darkness would seem to defy name. /2
So would appreciate some clarity on any previous funding from Google if taking a position on this issue. It's the least that can be asked. Once that happens, I do welcome perspective from any and all parties particularly the experience of the two authors. Escalation coming. /3
referencing this tweet on #2. I'm not big on speculation but it's out there so why not address it and get facts. FWIW, we take zero funding from Google. 🤣 Our members are all listed along with our membership dues. Welcome more to the party.
