Will @apsfyi finally stop being one of the worst clean energy laggards in the country? New reporting from the great @utilityreporter suggests they plan... to have a plan... I'll need to see more to believe it. Why? Because APS is a laggard.

@apsFYI @utilityreporter As I document in gory detail in my forthcoming book, Short Circuiting Policy, APS has dragged its feet on clean energy since the 1990s. They have rolled back solar energy policies, opposed ballot initiatives, and delayed acting on laws on the books.

@apsFYI @utilityreporter On renewables, Arizona is consistently behind on its own targets. In 2018, it only produced 5% of its utility-scale electricity supply from renewables. If renewables continue to grow at their best pace, by 2045 there will only be ~40% renewable energy sources.

@apsFYI @utilityreporter While APS talks about how "we don't have the technology to go 100% clean yet", the fact is that we do know how to get to ~80% renewables already. So rather than focusing on barriers, APS should be talking about speed.
