So lately I’ve been noticing this strategy of disinfo types talking up specific candidates in order to trigger infighting among that candidate’s supporters and cause still more division. So just consider who has been saying what and if it’s surprising, why. (It’s an old tactic)
This has been going on all week at least. Bad actors want more fighting, not less.
I’m not saying to not call people out for revealing themselves as assholes. I’m just saying it’s something to keep in mind. Are you just SO FUCKING PISSED right now? Are you disgusted and fed up with your peers, maybe even loved ones? That’s the idea!
Being upset redirects your attention. You don’t remember things that you need to remember. Your abstract thinking gets affected. And it’s cranked up to 11, too, by social media algorithms shoving posts from people you’re bound to fight with to keep you psychologically off kilter.
This is “engagement” (🤑) so they don’t really have any interest in fixing it either. That’s why I keep talking about it, so people won’t forget. Anyway that’s how social media is breaking democracy so stop letting them please, I really am a fan of it
Someday, when we have developed enough of a linguistic and academic framework to be able to process all of this properly, I promise to be less vague.
Oh one more thing: I’m deliberately not naming the candidate because it’s going to be a different one each week. Legitimate criticisms and concerns will be turned into outrage-bait.
