A pilot project conceived by the Vajpayee gvt to test the issuing of National ID Cards, was closed in 2009 after it had been able to establish citizenship of less than half the residents who participated in the pilot project.

The “Muslims” that Arfa puts in quotes are tired of those who have kept the country hostage to their thinking. Those who want to move on. It’s ppl like them who have made Muslim irrelevant politically & now talk about being 2nd class citizens. How did it come to pass?
I see many pieces where the author passes his/her opinion as “Indian Muslims”. No basis for that. Muslims are not a monolith.

The navy will only buy the AMCA. If that will happen ONLY after MWF is made, then the navy won’t have an indigenous fighter for a long time. Once the 3rd carrier comes in,we will need another 100 jets which we will be forced to import.

Foreign intelligence, embassies develop influential writers, editors, media houses, think tanks etc to plant stories, write favourable articles to develop public opinion. May or may not be for money for those who write. Sometimes it’s ideological reasons.
KGB got thousands of articles planted in Indian newspapers during the 70s/80s. Arabs today fund leading western think tanks who write favourable stuff for them. Pak too has good penetration in west. So the coverage in western media on Kashmir is always anti India

18L out of #NRC in #Assam are going to be imprisoned here. Some of them are being used as labor to build these detention centres. Are liberal Indians silent because 15L of 18L are Hindus? Don't they even care about the 3L Muslims? And 90% of the 18L are citizens. Not immigrants.
Members of the foreign tribunals in Assam are hired with huge salaries & perks to kick maximum out of #NRC. If they don't meet a quota they are given a bad report & fired. One member said they love their perks but up to 14L kicked out EASILY are citizens

1. Provision for #NRC is there in Sec 14A of Citizenship Act for long (wef 2004) though except for Assam, where implemented under SC directions, no rules exist setting out criteria for inclusion or exclusion of names.

2. Statement of HM "NRC Ayega" actually says nothing new.
3. #CAA may be constitutional/unconstitutional/fair/unfair... It would be determined in 50 Plus Petitions in SC (neither in Social Media nor on streets).

4. CAA applies to defined group of Illegal Migrants who came prior to Dec 31, 2014. Not criteria for all times to come.
5. CAA divides Illegal Migrants into two. Some Non Muslim Illegal Migrants would get into NRC (WHEN IT COMES) in view of benefits under CAA. Muslim & Other Non Muslim Illegal Migrants left out of CAA won't.

6. No point shedding tears for latter as they are Illegal anyway.

This man's hypocrisy is UNTAMABLE.

In his 2012 book Pax Indica, @ShashiTharoor said there are some 20 million illegal Bangladeshis in India. He wrote about them disparagingly, as though they were termites that had "disappeared into the Indian woodwork". Now he remembers Tagore.
In 2005, it was Tharoor's govt, the UPA, that proposed urgency in the drafting and the updating of the NRC in Assam.

The UPA Home Minister said he feared Assam could one day have a Bangladeshi chief minister. PM Manmohan Singh chaired the meeting. timesnownews.com/india/article/…
Also in 2005, Mamata Banerjee, outraging today, threw papers at the speaker, demanding a discussion on the scourge of illegal Bangladeshi migration.

Before elections, use #NRC as a tool of propaganda, @AmitShah used it in election rallies.
When it turns out, the BJP's own support base is caught, suddenly they aren't termites anymore.
Like Demonetisation & GST, another botched up venture by the BJP.
@AmitShah Years ago, MMS proposed the Indo - Bangla Land Border Agreement, to exchange the adverse land holdings the two countries had in each others territories.
The rational was, better & more effective vigilance of the border, thus preventing illegal migration.
The BJP & Modi specifically opposed the Indo - Bangla LBA, vociferously & just for the heck of it.
@SSAhluwaliaMP & other BJP leaders held Tiranga hoisting programs on border outposts, not a inch of Indian territory will be ceded, they said.
