Context. 
James Lindsay is just a bit more detailed in this thread, even mentioning one year once and the name Marx several times (though ridiculously misplaced). Critical theory and social justice are still all one thing to him as he cavalierly romps through centuries and continents.
I highlighted his opener--a typical form of framing for him--because I hope everyone notices to whom and how he is addressing these threads: "People really don't seem to understand that Social Justice isn't just a movement or some quirky ideas that got popular in some quarters."
None of the people he is talking *about* will recognize themselves in his descriptions. People versed in critical theory, people teaching critical theory laugh about him claims on a daily basis. So do people who are deeply engaged in social justice activism, if they notice him.
Tell a trained lawyer working or volunteering for a legal advocacy organization that their worldview is "rooted in both critical theory and postmodernism" and it's like "being 'Born Again' ... of Unholy Spirit that makes you critical." They will laugh you out of the room. Loudly.
Lindsay tries to sound like he's talking in a researched way (he's done the readings; this time he has; he promises!). It's very clear though that his ideas and how he presents them would not hold any water in an academic forum. I presume he knows that.
People who know the material he talks about and people who do the work he constantly attempts to characterize do not recognize themselves in his descriptions. They will not be convinced by what he proposes. They are not his audience.
He is talking to those who know even less than him. He's concocted a conspiratorial narrative just for them. These other people, the critical theorists and social justice activists, they are possessed by the Unholy Spirit! They've been awokened greatly and born again!
"People really don't understand" how deep that imaginary religion goes! It rules everything! Don't listen to them! Don't talk to them, unless you use my published guidelines that will protect you from their critically infested minds!
