I've seen this article (or some version of it) posted approximately one bajillion times this week. And while I'm definitely among those who believe everyone needs more library time in their lives, the article itself hints at some troubling truths behind the feel good headline...

I wish the increase in library usage was indicative of an uptick in our collective...

without a reliable funding source or the level of admiration they deserve.

I'm thrilled more people are going to the library, but this feels a lot like the canary in the coal mine to me. I hope that in addition to celebrating the headline, we are all thinking about ways...
to support these vital institutions whose health and well being are bellwethers we'd do well to pay attention to.
