🇱🇧Aoun calls on🇸🇦Saudi Arabia for a president other than #Hariri...& Washington for a comprehensive change. The official #Lebanese position, President Michel Aoun in particular has shifted towards trying to satisfy the Kingdom in search of a horizon for forming a government 1/16
In addition to trying to obtain Saudi satisfaction, Aouni's interest in the US position highlights, & knowing the truth about @POTUS approach to Lebanon. The Trump administration set clear conditions for forming the government & it refused to represent #Hezbollah in it. 2/16
The 🇱🇧Lebanese President moved in the direction of the Kingdom of 🇸🇦Saudi Arabia, & he sent an envoy to meet the Saudi ambassador in #Beirut. According to the information, #Aoun gave a presentation aimed at getting closer to the Kingdom, starting with an apology for... 3/16

🇷🇺Russia fears economic collapse in Lebanon and Syria! Russia is expanding its movement in the ME. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is touring the Gulf states. & before that, the #Russian-#Syrian meetings were continuing. Needless to say, Russia is strongly present in Syria. 1/25
🇷🇺And Russian-#Israeli communication is not interrupted. As well as the Russian-#Iranian relationship. But Moscow fears the repercussions of the new 🇺🇸US policy in the Middle East. 2/25
And it is affected like some Persian Gulf countries, especially the Kingdom of 🇸🇦Saudi Arabia. It is expanding its movement, trying to strengthen its position vis-à-vis 🇺🇸Washington. 3/25

#Lebanon’s #Tripoli is the poorest city in the #Mediterranean, with marginalised #Sunni population with reported of 80% uneducated, high unemployment, well before #BeirutBlast
No wonder the city’s youth had enough and protest against #lockdown
Thus far, one dead & 200+ injured
#Lebanon
Traditionally, the #Hariri’s Mustaqbel party is the patron of Sunnis, but thanks to Saad Hariri’s weak leadership, Sunnis, especially in #Tripoli, are now under the influence of Salafi sheikhs and even #Erdogan’s #Turkey

THREAD @IsraelMFA: The ruling issued by the Special Tribunal for #Lebanon, assigned to investigate the murder of PM #Hariri, was very clear in stating that terrorist organization #Hezbollah &its operatives were involved in both the murder & the tampering of the investigation. >>> The world must unite agains...
>>> #Hezbollah has taken the Lebanese people's future hostage on behalf of foreign interests. The world must unite against this terror organization in order to help #Lebanon set itself free of the threat that Hezbollah poses. >>> The world must unite agains...
>>> #Hezbollah's armament, precision guided missile project, and belligerent actions across the region threaten the entire #MiddleEast. The world must unite agains...

THREAD: many in Lebanon were expecting drama of high profile indictment like Milosevic trial, this was never going to be the case. Tho it acquitted 3 defendants, @STLebanon found 4th guilty. Remember the tribunal had no mandate to prosecute states or parties.
But UN tribunal has now determined beyond doubt that key operative in Hezbollah, a highly centralized political group/militant org, was guilty in plot to assassinate former premier Rafiq Hariri in 05, a politically motivated plot that wud benefit Hezb and patrons in Damascus.
If there is no direct evidence that leadership of Hezbollah and Syria gave orders it doesn’t mean they are innocent just that the evidence of guilt was not there partly because tribunal was limited to individuals.

I stop counting how many times “There are no evidences” were mentioned by judges in #Hariri STL
#Lebanon
As if 4 men *independently* monitored Hariri for at least 5 months, planned, executed a major crime against #Lebanon’s late PM #Hariri, then staged a fake story about his murder!
How redicluous!
#STL
#Hariri STL is clearly apolitical, meticulous, and transparent.
But failure to develop justice makes all the above pointless and irrelevant.
Another nail in the coffin of the state of

No one is really rejoicing the the government of Hassan Diab resigned, because no one really expected Diab to alter the status quo. He was appointed to absorb people's rage, and eventually be blamed as a scapegoat for when the economy completely collapses.
Then the #BeirutExplosion happened and threw the entire establishment into disarray. Diab was pressured to resign, or risk taking the blame for the explosion. #Macron's visit sent a signal that change will inevitably come. Elites are now scrambling to hedge their positions.
President Aoun & FPM will likely double down on their alliance with #Hezbollah and March-8 alliance, but it will bring their demise. The Christian street isn't as wedded to the resistance axis as its Shiite counterpart. International isolation of Lebanon will cause FPM to implode

1) The blast in #Lebanon was staggering in magnitude. The cause is yet to be determined, but hard to ignore timing against upcoming verdict over the killing of ex-PM Rafik #Hariri in 2005. A second possible explosion was also reported at the Hariri residence in the city.
2)Images from the fallout of the blast are devastating, with wide swaths of infrastructure completely demolished. I cant imagine what human cost this will bear:
3)Director General of Lebanese security states explosion was not result of IED, but rather a high-intensity explosive material “confiscated years ago” and held in the now-destroyed facility. Raises questions as to what the facility was, and does not at all exclude foul play.

Thread: HEZBOLLAH'S NEW STRATEGY: The clashes between the #LAF and #Hariri supporters are too obvious. The #LebanonProtests are being pushed away with this new Sunni-Shia threat. #Hezbollah's nomination of #hassan_diab is aimed at pushing the Sunni community to the streets 1/5
Now the #Hariri supporters are out, highlighting the same sectarian sentiment that the Hezbollah supporters have been highlighting for the past few week, when they were shouting "Shia, Shia, Shia." Today, the Sunnis are all Sunnis 2/5
This new Sunni vs. Shia street rhetoric has two objectives: One, encourage violence and scare the Lebanese off the streets, and two, fight the anti-sectarian spirit that has dominated the streets for two months. 3/5

Video of #Lebanon Protestors Celebrating #Hariri Resignation chanting their slogan “all means all.”

Historic moments for the country, for protest movement in Day 13. #لبنان_ينتفض
The Lebanese President can still technically reject the resignation but this already makes current Gov. lame duck.

Big accomplishment still for protestors who from Tripoli (north) to Beirut to Nabatiye (South)gathered under one message wanting change.

Critical time for Lebanon
Sorry, I misspoke. President cannot reject resignation if it’s written

The #Syria regime looks fully resurgent in #Lebanon for 1st time since assassination of PM Rafik #Hariri, 14 years ago.
Names which became too toxic to even mention after 2004, because of their extreme closeness to the Assad regime, have been re-elected in 2018 #LebanonElections
Following a partial defeat of @saadhariri list in #Beirut, #Hezbollah et al (all pro-#Syria regime supporters) felt emboldened enough, last night, to celebrate their win before the commemorative bust of slain PM Hariri
(Syria and Hezbollah were implicated in his assassination)
