In lieu of another day of Senate q&a, I went downtown to watch a hearing in the Parnas case. After one motion was withdrawn, it boiled down to a p minor issue, whether Parnas improperly gave away some of Fruman’s privileged docs to HPSCI and was obliged to try to get em back.
It’s striking how much better it all felt. The trial of Parnas, Fruman, Correia, and Kukushkin is a long way off. We won’t know a date until Monday. They’re going to have discovery and a chance to make motions; there will be witnesses and an orderly process for preparing them.
What happens day in and day out in federal court isn’t always great, our justice system is broken in a lot of ways, but it far outshines the Senate process we all just witnessed.
Beyond that, it’s clear that we’re going to learn so much more about these matters over the course of the year. Not just from Bolton’s book, but from whatever Bondy has just downloaded from Parnas’s iCloud, from SDNY’s evidence about what went on with Pete Sessions, etc.
It’s absolutely insane that the Senate will try to move on from this tomorrow when there’s still so much to be learned.
