Okay this thread I bequeath to all those games devs out there whom encounter the "ideas man".

You may point them to this thread.

You are welcome.
So the Ideas Man is a character that can be found lurking around various outer zones of map when you are a game dev.

The skins randomize, so it is impossible to spot the Ideas Man until you interact with them.
You may be on one of the various side quests to up your social skill bar, for example, a party encounter.

The Ideas Man locks you in to a fairly consistent dialogue tree, but the result is still a grind and a drain on your life bar.
The dialogue reveals this basic plot. Ideas Man wants to get into games, because they have a great idea. Many, in fact.

Regardless of the selections you make, Ideas Man will reveal that they do not wish to learn how to code, script or build levels. No, no.
If you're wisdom stat is high enough, it will unlock the dialogue option of "well you can develor own games these days, have you downloaded [unreal / Unity]?

Be warned. This loop has no actual gameplay advantage- (just like any Outer Worlds feature.)
The Ideas Man is impervious to this skill, and will insist that they do not need to do that because that's everyone elses job. No, you don't understand, THEIR job is to come up with the IDEAS.

You take fifty soul stone damage at this point regardless of saving throw.
Now, there is some logic to taking this soul damage. And if you hack the console and look at the files here you will the developer actually listed Ideas Man dialogue as an attack.

Looking at the code, it reveals a bug that results in the damage.
Ideas Man is making an attack on games developers, because the assumption here is that games developers themselves obviously do not have ideas.

Let me repeat that.

Game developers themselves obviously do not have ideas.
Ideas are a currency to the Ideas Man class.

Ideas make great games.

Bad games exist because of bad ideas.

They have good ideas.

Ergo games need them.
So it may surprise you to know that, if you use commonly available tools to hack GameDev, you will find an almost unlimited amount of ideas is contained inside the game.

Infact you will find great ideas in every single developer class except, perhaps, venture capitalists.
Bad games do not happen because of bad ideas or a lack of ideas.

They happen for many, many reasons. Ego, politics, budget, over scope, delusions of grandeur, lack of experience, departmental in fighting, misinformation, mismatching teams to tasks, death, disease and morale.
Good ideas are everywhere, but it takes SKILL to take that idea through the long process of development and have it come to fruition.

SKILL in design, planning, coding, management, scheduling, communication, marketing, tools development and so on and so forth.

SKILLS not IDEAS
Ideas Man refuses to have skills.

Ideas man refuses to recognise other peoples value.

Ideas man does not think their ideas have value.

Ideas Man is a narcissist.
We have enough narcissists in the industry.

Infact we have far too many. If you need some for your industry we are happy to trade them for Pokemon cards, coffee vouchers or, yunno, happy working conditions and self respect.
We don't need Ideas Man.

They give us no loot, no power ups and no side quests.

But you CAN hack them out of the social side quests!

Just patch your game by linking them to THIS tweet thread and leave them to it whilst you go try to replenish the soul damage they just caused.
If you want to develop games, go learn some skills. Learn a discipline. Work with others to build a working understanding of what it takes to make a game.

Got it?

Good.
This patch is freeware, but if you wanna support the developer please insert coffee. Thank you.
