Firefly season 3 is when the show really peaks for me. Alyson Hannigan's drunken renegade Alliance Soldier character Nance Pinkerton replacing Jayne was a smart move.

It took me a while to adjust to Simon Tam's death, but afterwards River became a much stronger character imho.

Still, how good was J.August Richards as the new ship' Doctor Farley? His blood and guts pragmatism really sold the life and death situations.

Plus Wash and Zoe had some of his strongest dialogue in that season.

Plus, Mal fropped the whole slut shaming vibe too with Inara. Waaay better dynamic.

I mean, season 3 was the peak, but 4 and 5 still kicked ass. I am glad they chose to end it on 5 with the show wrapping up all the loose ends. To go on longer would have been a just wrong.

I mean, can you imagine not getting to enjoy the delicious villainy of Charisma Carpenter's Shattered Alliance warlord in season 4 and 5? I mean.... wow.

Besides, the sexual tension between Kaley and Nance through season 4? *chefs kiss*

If I could change anything, I would love to have seen more of Saffron than the three episode arc in season 2. I know Hendricks was busy with Mad Men, but... the episode S2E7 Special Hell's Belle just nailed her as full time crew cast. But... I mean it was nice to have her.

So what do you think? What were your fave moments and changes in Firefly seasons 2 through 5?

OMG OMG what about Nance' introduction were she and Mal have a straight up drunken fist fight on Unification Day?

Or how they just straight up gun downed Jayne? No heroic ending or anything just... slump.

Made that gunfight super terrifying. I swear Zoe was a gonner.

I am glad Kaylee and Nance didn't end up getting together, sexual tension aside, it would have felt like Willow and Tara all over again. So I ultimately approve of Kaylee choosing Lizzie over Nance. Besides, that hatefuck between Mal and Nance? Woooooow

I especially love how they end with them spooning awkwardly and they don't know what to say to each other and then the flashback to Serenity Valley and the guard behind Mal turned out to be her and she told him to be quiet and he said "you ain't ever gonna make me"

And it made him and Inara getting back together all the sweeter. I swear Nance letting her mask slip for a moment to reveal she was actually in love with Mal all along just made me rewind and watch all their interactions again. The subtext was there. Plain as day!

It's also kinda funny when they win back Serenity at S3 after 5 eps trapped on Kain's, and they come back on board and Wash says "is it just me, or is it a little roomier?"- a nod to the original set being burned down in a pyro accident and when they rebuilt it they expanded it

Oh and who could forget the adopted ships dog in S3? Betsy Mae? I love how Mal hates her but he practically takes a bullet for her by the end. A better romance than twilight if you ask me. Also the way Nance calls her "casserole breath"

I mean, it's in Mandarin, but it's casserole breath.

Remember when Kaylee is loading the Tirellium in season 3 and she has that power loader from Aliens but painted in orange and yellow checks?
I mean, there are so many shared universe clues, but that one just made me squeal and run around in circles.

I kind of wish she kept it, and the CGI was a little better, but I guess it wasn't in the budget to have the suit in the cargo bay all the time.

Okay, okay, did anyone pick up that the funeral in the last episode happened in Serenity Valley itself?

I mean... wow. I still tear up.

I LOVED that bit where Mal jumps out is disguise and his daughter Clae (Molly Quinn) says

Nance Pinkerton was the best part of Firefly Season 3.

Mal- you a purple bellied snake, 'fever I seen one.
