$KEY.ja is up 15% for the month after news of $GK.ja's intention to acquire a majority stake in the company. This comes after the company reported a $298.8 Million net loss for the 9 months with claims nearly consuming premium income. bit.ly/2OeGn79

#FinanceTwitter Time for 2019 IPO's in review. I will be going over the companies listed for the first time in Jamaica and looking at capital raised. Note, no preference share, APO nor rights issues will be included.

For 2019, there were 12 listings with 11 new companies
coming to the JSE. The cumulative total raised by companies for the year came up to approximately $18.28 Billion with the Junior Market raising $911.9 Million alone. These numerous IPO's saw thousands of new shareholders getting ownership in these various companies.
Fontana Limited $FTNA.ja came to the market and raised $234 Million with an IPO price of $1.88. As of yesterday December 30, 2019 closed at $6.65 which represents a 254% increase in value. Scotia Investments was the lead broker. Total offer value for IPO was $468 Million.

#FinanceTwitterJa There is a distinct difference between a realized gain and an unrealized gain. An unrealized gain is just the increased value in an asset or holding based on the current market price. Eg, You bought $100,000 worth of Wigton at IPO ($0.50). It's now trading at $1
On your monthly statement from your broker, you would see original/portfolio cost ($100k), unrealized gain/loss ($100k) and current value $200k. The current value of Wigton is $200k, but you have an unrealized gain of $100k due to the increase in the market value of the stock.
Now, if you were to sell Wigton at $1, you would have to pay a 2% commission, 0.33% in fees to JSE and 16.5% GCT for a settlement amount of $194,571.10. Note, by selling Wigton, one would be exchanging your shares (asset) for payment (cash). Your profit would be $94,571.10.

Firstly, Carib Cement is a part of the Cemex Group (Mexican Company) since the direct owners (Trinidad Cement Limited) own 65% of CCC and they in turn are owned by the Cemex Group. So, CCC->TCL->Cemex. So, even though he's saying Jamaican investors have received no dividends,
the owners (TCL) haven't either. Why is this?! Dividends can only be paid of profits that the company generates. Also, a dividend doesn't have to be declared by a company. The last time CCC paid a dividend was in 2005. Based on the CCC 2016 annual report which gave a 10 year

An index is a collection of stocks. It's made to follow stocks based on a particular criteria.
So this means your portfolio is an index! It's made up of a criteria that you decided on:

- I personally like the companies
-I like the price of the stock
-I like the management
-my financial advisor recommended them
Etc.

Another example of an index would be the Manufacturing and Distribution (MD) index .

The criteria is in the name: manufacturing and distribution. Therefore it's made up of manufacturing and distribution companies.

Generally speaking $JMMBGL.ja has been performing well. The one trouble spot I have seen is their proprietary trading desk. Income from that line item dipped in ‘18 & ‘19, which given the bull market is confusing. But all other biz lines have increased revenues.
