Albus Dumbledore just became the first openly-gay fictional wizard to be quoted on the floor of the U.S. Senate during the impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Lots of history being made today, folks.
Questions on whether Albus was truly "openly-gay" since it wasn't in the books but a post-publication reveal. I don't know. I suppose I could ask if it's gate-keeping to require Dumbledore be identified as gay in the text. Debate amongst yourselves. I'm tired.
I have Bernie Sanders fans now flooding my mentions to, uh, inform me J.K. Rowling is a TERF and to "read another book" because I made a snarky observation about someone else quoting Harry Potter on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Anyway, so here’s a fun story to distract you while we wait for results...

Tonight, on campus, I went to get a drink at a vending machine.

Crouched at one of the machines was a gentleman of a small frame, trying to fish out his snack.
I get my drink, and he’s still going at it.

“Everything okay?”

“Yeah, my chips are stuck.”

“Can I help?”

“Sure.”

So, I did what I always do in this situation.
I got in a good linebacker stance, pushed the vending machine up off the floor a few inches, and dropped it back down. Chips went straight to the bottom.

“Whoa, thank you!” my new friend said with genuine amazement.

I’m a socialist, so I’m not saying don’t use the label, but I am saying the numbers are pretty clear that this is an uphill climb and a potent reminder we need to meet people where they are on this instead of attacking them for being uncomfortable with the word “socialism”.
I grew up in Texas, and far more often than not, “socialism” is a bad word. We change that with respectful conversation on what it means to have a system of resources where no one gets left behind and where no one is limited in their potential.
Socialism doesn’t mean individuals sacrifice their dreams and ideas for a collective; it means the collective should rely on each other, so that all individuals can go after their dreams without fear of having to go without. Everyone puts in a little, everyone moves forward.

If a potential juror says he can't/won't be fair and impartial, he's immediately disqualified from service. McConnell and Graham have declared actual bias. They are disqualified from service in an impeachment trial of Donald Trump.
Sorry, I had to re-up this to take out McCarthy who is, of course, not a senator. I just got on a roll. 🤦🏻‍♂️
For Dems, moving to disqualify all who have, as Graham puts it, "totally made up" their minds, shouldn't be a political calculation. Dems aren't responsible for any GOP senator's decision to discard the constitution. Dems don't have to pound the table or yell about it, either.
