Thread: @mrjamesob a friend heard on show this morning & that you were surprised British applications for a Ryanair cabin crew would be ruled out by the following requirement -
Applicants must have unrestricted right to live and work in the EU.

independent.co.uk/travel/news-an…
@mrjamesob We had that as #EUcitizens.
#Brexit removed that right from us on Jan 31, but we do have right to live/work in Europe during transition while UK observes rules of single market. On Jan 1 2021, we lose that right. I wrote about this ages ago, see pinned tweet
@mrjamesob 'Freedom of movement' gave us right to live/work countries in single market, 30 in total.
(If you want to stay for over 3 months, you need to prove income or financial resources &
have health insurance cover). UK could have used those controls on immigration & did not.
@mrjamesob #hardBrexit where we are outside of single market & don't have mobility framework will hit British citizens hard. They lose access to huge job market. As third country nationals, a work permit is required. Employers have to look in EU/EEA first & only then can they hire a #TCN.
@mrjamesob Some roles qualify for a skills migrant permit but not all.
If person loses project or job, they have to leave the country. & cannot hang around & try to find another one as EU citizens or citizens of the single market can. They also lose their right to health insurance.
@mrjamesob The worst hit - freelancers who rely of #FOM to work for clients on different projects & change countries for a new role. They will easily go over 90/180 days Schengen business visa. Result - agencies & some clients won't deal with British contractors already since around 2018.
@mrjamesob Speed is required with freelance projects. Clients cannot wait for work permit processing which in some countries takes 2 months. Not only freelancers will suffer, but British companies who send employees over to the EEA
as consultants. (Accenture, other consulting firms)
@mrjamesob Another sad loss in Brexit - we lose the 'right of establishment' of a business or
self-employment construction. There is more red tape there.

@mrjamesob British citizens in Europe already noticed how unpopular they were due to #Brexit theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
@mrjamesob Some politicians try to shed light on the damage & solutions to it. See debates in House of Lords with @NickClancarty , Lord Fox, Lord Putnam
