A lot of moderate, blue-collar Democrat voters are feeling really queasy about their party after last night's embarrassing spectacle. It might help to think about a famous man who was once in the same position as you: Ronald Reagan.
Reagan beautifully articulated what it was like to see his longtime political party moving away from him and turning into something he could no longer support. "I didn't leave the Democrat Party. The party left me," he memorably explained.
Politicians talk about "principles" all the time, but the truth is that parties shift around principles like iron filings jittering around strong magnets. Parties get dragged away from principles by influential extremists, as with the Democrats in Reagan's day, and today.
It should be painfully clear to working-class Democrat voters that the party has left them. Party leaders proved it time and again during the State of the Union speech. There is great significance in them sitting on their hands during a tribute to the "blue collar boom."
Here's the thing about blue collar booms: They only happen when government steps away and the private sector expands. They happen under enlightened nationalism, not rapacious globalism. A Democrat party devoted to the total politicization of EVERYTHING cannot deliver one.
Deep down, that's probably why you're feeling queasy this morning if you're a working-class Democrat. What you saw was the party hyper-politicizing EVERYTHING, including war heroes, people suffering from entirely preventable crimes, a man bravely facing lung cancer.
What you know in your heart, but maybe can't quite bring yourself to say yet, is that the vicious power-mad Democrat Party you saw last night will sacrifice YOU in a heartbeat to achieve its political goals. They'll gleefully strangle the blue collar boom to get more power.
If you're a hard-working black or Hispanic voter, you heard Trump talk about what he's done for you, and you know it's all true. Then you saw the Democrats treat you like chips on a poker table, caring nothing about your lives or the fortunes of your children.
You want your kids to have a better education? Not if the Democrat Party and its teachers union have anything to say about it. Any solution that erodes their power or money in the slightest is a non-starter. They'll fight to the death to keep your kids trapped in bad schools.
You want more economic opportunity? Not going to happen if Democrats take power. That would dilute their voting strength and reduce dependency on their welfare state programs. They think the reduction of food stamp rolls Trump talked about is a DISASTER.
Democrats will kill the blue collar boom because if it keeps going for another four years, it will have a profound effect on society. It will change the electorate they've worked so hard to socially engineer. They'll gladly sacrifice YOU and your family to stop that.
Trump was talking about things that matter to ordinary people, making a human connection with voters. Democrats are utterly lost in power politics, seeing only the lunatic funhouse mirror of social media and hardcore political activism, not America as it really is.
This is the essence of the Reagan moment facing hard-working Democrat voters: you CAN'T change the degenerate party you saw dressed in bizarre white costumes and sitting on its hands at SOTU. You have no influence in the party. It moved away from you, and you can't bring it back.
The only thing you can do is walk away. You don't have any influence inside the lunatic bubble where Democrat Party leaders live, but they WILL notice your absence. They'll either reluctantly reform in a bid to get you back, or collapse further into extremism and be replaced.
My suspicion is that a mass movement of blue collar Democrats to the GOP will terrify the big-money people who hold the high cards at the Democrat Party table, and the money will force the Party to retire its toxic leadership and move back to the middle.
You'd be surprised how quickly that can happen, how fast Pelosi and the other lunatics will be airbrushed out of Party photos and replaced by exciting young pro-growth "moderates" with a blue collar touch approved by the big money behind the Democrat brand.
You CAN make it happen, working class Democrats. Act on what you felt while you watched them glare hatefully at war heroes, crime victims, and hard-working Americans at SOTU. Vote with your feet. Walk away. They're sick and they need treatment. Leave them alone to get it. /end
