After improving dramatically in 2017 and 2018, Alberta’s unemployment rate is now continuing to climb.
After years and years of leading the country, Alberta’s employment rate continues to fall.
Last month’s loss of 19,000 jobs was the second biggest monthly decline on record for Alberta.
The situation is particularly dire for men, who are now faring worse than during the oil-price-collapse recession of 2014-16.
Finally, we are now 85,000 jobs below where we would have been if the bottom hadn’t dropped out of global oil prices in 2014. The gap has actually gotten wider since the UCP took office (despite their promises of “jobs, economy, pipelines!”)
Sadly, the jobs picture is likely to only get worse. Why? Because the UCP seems determined to heap public sector job loss on top of private sector job loss. The UCP’s upcoming austerity budget will kill 114,000 additional jobs. #ableg #KenneyRecession afl.org/new_report_con…
