Jason Kenney is Alberta’s “Gaslighter-in-Chief” ... and in this article, his gaslighting tactics are on full display. Follow this thread to see what I mean. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli #canlab 1/x edmontonjournal.com/news/local-new…
For those unfamiliar with the term, here’s a definition of gaslighting: “Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or group, making them question their own memory, perception, and sanity.” #ableg
In this article, Kenney says anyone concerned about his cuts is “ridiculous” because the cuts are “modest.” The truth is, when you adjust for inflation and population growth, his budget will cut per capita spending on public services by 15-20 percent. That is NOT modest. #ableg
He’s also asking people to ignore the evidence they see with their own eyes (hallmark of a gaslighter). Hundreds of jobs have already been cut. And thousands more are on the chopping block. These cuts to core services are not figments of our imagination! #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli
And, coming from a guy whose main political strategy has been to whip up public fear and anger against others, Kenney’s indignation at union leaders and the NDP for “inciting” Albertans is outrageous. You’re the master fear monger, Jason. No one holds a candle to you. #ableg
In a similar vein, Kenney says Albertans protesting budget cuts should be “careful with there language.” This coming from a guy who has deliberately encouraged hatred of environmentalists and fanned the flames of separatism. He is the opposite of careful with his language. #ableg
In this same press conference, Kenney said union leaders should talk calmly with government and consult. He wants everyone to forget that he just seized our pension assets (without consulting), tore up contract provisions and has threatened to impose wage cuts with negotiation.
He also said unions should avoid strike talk b/c it might hurt the economy. But, it’s Kenney’s budget that’s going to hurt the economy, not our protests. In fact, cutting the jobs & wages of 1000s of Albertans is likely to tip our economy into recession. afl.org/new_report_con…
The final, and perhaps most outrageous, example of gaslighting I want to highlight is how Kenney feigns concern about women. His budget cuts will disproportionately impact women (nurses, teachers etc).
So spare us your phoney concern for women, Jason. If you really cared about women in this province, you wouldn’t be vaporizing their jobs, gutting the services that they and their families rely upon and undermining their reproductive rights. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli #canlab
And a final word about the push that gave the Premier a pretext for his sanctimonious comments. No, the protester should not have pushed her. That’s not okay. But we all know that’s exactly what the Rebel “reporter” was there for.
The people from Rebel media are NOT journalists. They are extremist right-wing activists with cameras. Everyone know this. That’s an issue that people need to be discussing: how the UCP is using extremist fake journalists as part of their tactics to discredit opposition.
And, I’ll just leave these here. These are tweets from the phoney Rebel “journalist” wherein she explains how she would like to run protesters over with her truck.
