A UK Prime Minister with a parliamentary majority already has fewer checks on their power than almost any other democratic leader - far fewer, for example, than a US President. If Number 10 is now to appoint all ministerial advisors, even dissent within cabinet will get harder.
Since taking office, Johnson & Cummings have shut down Parliament, expelled rebel MPs, threatened broadcasters & resisted media scrutiny. Our new Attorney-General wants to "take back control from the judiciary" & lift the royal prerogative above the courts conservativehome.com/platform/2020/…
The Tories won 43.6% of the vote in 2019. That makes them, quite properly, the loudest voice in our democracy. It does not entitle them to total control of every part of the state. Checks on govt are not an affront to democracy; they are essential to a democracy of many voices.
