The series of revelations in the Telegraph about the licence given to Hamas to operate in Turkey, raises serious questions about Turkey's future relationship with western countries. Erdogan is also looking to destabilise Britain. Tucked away in the Telegraph is the revelation 1/2
2/2 Erdogan met two prominent UK Muslim Brotherhood supporters on his last visit to London - Anas Altikriti and Zaher Birawi. Both are in a plethora of Islamist groups here, and Altikriti is President of the Muslim Association of Britain telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/12/1…
3/3 Just a few days after hanging out with Erdogan, Anas Altikriti's Muslim Association of Britain had the brass neck to call for a more inclusive and open politics, in their post #GeneralElection19 statement. mabonline.net/?p=gambling

Corbyn was asked to resign repeatedly & refused. There was real crisis in the #LabourParty, he was not competent to lead it & NOW he resigns, just like David Bl**dy Cameron after he caused the Brexit disaster. Closet leaver. Now everyone is screwed & for what?

Democrats better pay close attention. If #impeachment has taught us nothing else it has confirmed what some of us have written about for years now: The GOP is not giving up Trump. They don't care what you think and they are not going to roll over for Biden, like he claims.
Boris Johnson is a right monster and yet he won. AGAIN. In a landslide. Americans cannot afford to be deluded about what is in GOP hearts--especially with the economy stable. If you think a one-termer is the answer, welcome to Brexit 2.0.

If Jeremy #Corbyn becomes PM on Friday 13th, here's my rundown of 13 of #Labour’s worst policies which will hurt many, not just the few.

PS. I could have chosen a completely different 13, and these are in no particular order… (thread)

#GeneralElection19
1. Expropriating up to 10% of the value of corporate equity. Employee share ownership is usually a good thing, but dictating the terms would deter job creation and investment, and encourage firms to relocate overseas. More explanation here... capx.co/the-10-share-p…
2. Rent controls. Almost all economists agree that these are a bad idea and, like many of Labour’s policies, would actually end up hurting the very people they are supposed to help. And before replying ‘well, it works in Germany', read this… iea.org.uk/blog/qtwtain-h…

Boris Johnson et al are responsible for having wasted the last three years on the massive folly of brexit. Would a child be on the floor if the country’s energy and money had been put into solving problems instead? /start

They told you they would have more money for the NHS. They lied then, they are lying now. We will continue haemorrhaging money on stupid brexit unicorns, negotiating them, duplicating what we already have, chasing a fantasy and losing our standing in the world! #stopbrexit
At the same time we will lose trade and growth and we will lose people, lots of people, expert people, smart people, caring people, interesting people, and be left with uncaring self interested power hungry brexit politico bots in power. #VoteNotTory #Braindrain

On a day when many classes were empty in universities across the country because of #UCUstrikes, I just finished teaching my evening lecture at an institution where voting turnout (though being pro-strikes) was marginally less than the statutory 50%.
So I decided to use my platform tonight: At the end of the lecture I made sure students were aware of the strikes then explained why they were taking place. I offered to stay after class to answer any questions they might have about the strikes.
I told them that the strikes were not directed at students but at a system that needs to be fixed. Because the ongoing corporatisation of higher education and casualisation of university staff is a broken system.

Now that the Brexit Party & the Tories have formed an unholy hard-right pact & Farage helping deliver a parliamentary majority for Boris, we are walking into inevitable disaster.

That's why I call on all Green Party candidates in Lab/Con marginals to not put yourself forward
I appreciate it's difficult and I don't ask this lightly but with so much at stake, our TOP priority should be to stop the Tories by any means necessary.

We simply cannot afford 5 more years of Tory rule with a Trumpian Brexit.
We know what Boris Johnson’s deal means - a victory for oil and gas magnates, greedy pharmaceutical conglomerates and the hedgefund-elite, with job security, environmental protections and workers’ rights at great risk.

#BrexitDay

Sorry folks, but we have to talk about Farage

A #GeneralElection19 thread
Like it or not, until we know what Farage and the Brexit Party are going to do, we cannot even begin to work out what will happen in the election
At the 2015 General Election - pre-referendum - UKIP then led by Farage received 12.6% of the vote:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Unit…

At the 2017 General Election - post-referendum - Farage was no longer UKIP leader and the party received just 1.8%:

And so it begins...

#GeneralElection19 Image
The thrust of Labour’s campaign is to move the conversation onto areas they feel stronger on. As in 2017, expect focus on the NHS, on workers’ rights, on, well everything but Brexit.
The danger for Boris Johnson is that he may want the election to be about Brexit. But once you call it, as Theresa May found out to her cost, you lose the ability to frame the narrative your way.
