Build it remote-first, but also make it social as opposed to a pure enterprise product.

PROBLEM
For 80% the disease is mild, but for 20% it's severe.

SOLUTION
Sequence all infected. Record clinical outcome: mild or severe? Do association study to predict outcome from genomics, phenotype.

You *might* be able to predict probability of coming down with a severe case.
This is a high-stakes GWAS. You'd need large samples & strong signal to be confident in it.

But if it did work, you might be able to let the subgroup with the lowest predicted risk out of quarantine after genotyping them.

This can unblock the production of vaccines, antivirals.
As more context, the thing I've been most concerned about is the virus infecting frontline healthcare workers (MDs, nurses) and the people working on diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics who have to handle dangerous samples.

Knowing who's at higher risk may help a lot here.

WHO says “decline in COVID-19 cases across China is real.”

Cites stats: reported decline in fever clinic visits, opening of beds, challenges in clinical trial recruitment.

Is this decline real, real but temporary, fake, or something else?

The case for a real decline:

- quarantine of hundreds of millions
- highly coordinated state & society response
- generally cooperative citizenry

If real, China's model gets exported worldwide. Though it's not clear that the West can or would want to adopt it.
The case for a real, but temporary decline:

- quarantine is not normal circumstances
- virus is highly contagious
- as soon as people return to daily life, R0 rises

If this happens, we're in for a long fight till we can get antivirals or vaccines. And production will be hard.

What's the potential scale of the epidemic?

1) JHU has 82k confirmed cases
2) ICL's Ferguson & Harvard's Lipsitch project 40-70% of population infected
3) And H1N1 did infect 11-21%

If accurate, this would mean a 10,000X increase from ~100k confirmed cases today to >1B cases.
Q: are these 40% projections realistic?

The H1N1 study helps calibrate. They looked at actual serosurvey data to determine who had antibodies to H1N1. That's molecular evidence. And from that, they estimated that 11-21% of the world had gotten H1N1.

The UK is starting to do random testing.

Rather than waiting for people to self-identify, countries may eventually move towards random sampling of the population to estimate the % infected. More feasible with fairly high infection rates or large samples.
