This notion also gives rise to the “eat or be eaten” way of life seen in some parts of the world (like Eastern Europe, for example). It’s not pretty, or fun. All energy becomes centered on eating, or not being eaten. Is that what we really want?
Also, the “win at all costs” attitude has a cost, namely making oneself a prime target for manipulation. Instead of focusing on what’s right,

We really need to ask ourselves what kind of country we want to be, and who we want leading it. 4th estate, please do your Constitutionally protected jobs.
PS: this system is dependent on the marginalization of various groups. Which groups? Whichever ones it’s most politically advantageous to marginalize.
If you’re thinking, “oh, but *MY* group is safe,” look no further than how the win-at-all-costs GOP has treated decorated veterans and military members...something that 4 years ago would have been utterly unthinkable. And it’s all to avoid being eaten.
