To the critique of Bezos giving $10B re: climate change b/c he gets to allocate vs taxpayer:

What % of gov't positions are appointed vs elected? Most?

The idea that gov't organizations are accountable seems overstated.

It's easier to stop using Amazon than to switch countries.
it's a broader question as to whether public institutions or private organizations are held more accountable by its constituency.

The Q is what works better to keep organizations honest & accountable: voice or exit?
An appointed gov’t employee was neither voted in by an electorate nor chosen by a customer, & thus is accountable to neither.

But they can put out a draft guidance that binds not just companies in the US, but the entire world (since the world often outsources regulation to US)
