I talk a lot about how Judeo-Christian isn't a thing. Today's page of Talmud gives some excellent examples. In todays reading we learn that 3 things evoke sin - standing next to a wall that's about to fall, expecting your prayer to be answered, and passing judgement to heaven.
Why these three things? Because they make God responsible for things that we should be seeing to ourselves. It's a direct injunction against "thoughts and prayers" as a reaction to a secular problem, one that it is our responsibility, and not God's, to solve.
The last one is the polar opposite of "judge not, lest ye be judged". Judgement - pursuing justice - here on Earth is *our* job. Avoiding doing so is shirking our responsibilities. It's failing to hold up our end of the deal.
God is not our co-pilot. God gave us the wheel. God has other things to do, so it's up to us to keep our eyes on the road and watch for pedestrians and slow down in school zones. Giving it up to God is not righteousness - it's just calling attention to our own shortcomings.
